Happy Sunday, and to those that celebrate, Happy Easter! No matter what you’re doing, I hope you’re enjoying some time off, filled with music. Now that we’re officially 25% of the way into 2023, I’m focusing on thinking of new and fun things to do with Chasing Sound. We already have a ton of great content coming in May, so there’s lots to look forward to. I always find the Spring and Summer inspiring to work on new stuff.
What have you been working on with the guitar? Let me know in the comments or by replying to this email. It’s been quieter this week in the guitar world, but I still have some good stuff to share with you. Without further ado, let’s get into this week’s links.
This Week’s Guitar Links
- 5 Things I Wish I'd Known Sooner When Learning Guitar - Shoutout to John in our Discord for sharing this great link with us. The video features Kerry Marshall (who's played with tons of national acts), talking about the 5 things he wish he'd known sooner when it comes to learning guitar. There's some great advice here, and no matter whether you're just getting started, or are well on your guitar journey, it's worth watching.
- April Is INTERNATIONAL GUITAR MONTH!!! Episode 1 - Vince Genella is one of my favorite guitar educators, based out of my home state right here in New Jersey. He's a fantastic player, and an even better teacher. It turns out, April is International Guitar Month - that’s a tradition I can get behind! To mark the occasion, Vince is going live each day in April to play guitar, teach, and more. Here's the first episode, but make sure to stop in and say hello.
- Five ways to improve your guitar tone - If you’re reading this newsletter, there's a good chance you're always looking to improve your tone. Guitar.com brought up 5 simple ways to improve your sound, with some gear related tips, and one no brainer at the end that everyone needs to hear.
- Lee & Pete's Guitar Practice Tips! - After you've worked on your tone, how about working on your practicing too? Lee & Pete over at Andertons give some straight ahead tips on how to practice better. The video is super helpful, but also check out the blog post (in their video description) for even more info.
- How Many Jazz Standards Should You Learn? Download my awesome IrealPro charts! - Denis Chang talks about how many jazz standards you should learn in your life as a jazz player. But the real amazing thing about this video is that it includes a DropBox link to Denis' real books for iRealPro. You can import both of them right into the app, and have over 200 charts at your fingertips.
- Gibson Launches the Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V - Gibson continues to roll with the Kirk Hammett signature models. If you were less of a Les Paul guitarist and wanted something different, the brand just came out with the 1979 Flying V KH signature. I've always been a huge fan of Hammett, but with a price tag of 15 thousand dollars, will have to drool over this one from the sidelines. I'm wondering if we see Hetfield get a dual sponsorship any time soon?
- They Finally Let Me Into Abbey Road Studios! - Not entirely guitar related, but there’s a ton of history at the legendary Abbey Road. Rick Beato took a trip to this very special studio, and took a tour around some of the most hallowed grounds for musicians.
