The biggest thing I've learned in twenty years of teaching is that for most beginner's teaching chords immediately is not usually the best way to go. I have other specific pieces I teach that get them sounding musical and using the whole neck right away. After a few weeks of that then it's onto chords and learning one of there favorite songs. I do agree though not only do you have to be learning songs, but playing along with the songs as soon as possible. Slow them down on Youtube. Thanks Brian!

What do you try to show students on YouTube? Always interested in hearing how other folks teach.

I was just saying that playing along with the songs as soon as they can is super important. They should take advantage of being able to slow down the songs on Youtube. If they are never playing along with songs or practicing with a metronome/drum beat then they are not doing the thing that is most important to music. Playing in time. All my students start playing in time as best as they can immediately.

100% agree. For the last couple of years I’ve used that Vidami Blue for that stuff. Super helpful when you don’t want to keep going back and forth between your guitar and the mouse/keyboard. Also pretty sweet for using with your DAW
